What are the political, societal, and psychological consequences of fear? Is fear always a barrier to building support for farsighted and strategic foreign policy objectives? Since mid-2008, U. S. in the World has studied the impact of fear on the American public in the post-9/11 context. Drawing on sociological, psychological, historical, and public opinion and communications research (including original research to test stories and frames), U.S. in the World is developing messaging recommendations for advocates and other communicators interested in promoting responsible foreign policy approaches.
